1st of March 2017

in Support of Green Memorial Hospital

Manipay Hospital

Sri Lanks, Jaffna

This document presents a general outline of a mission to raise USD 8000 for the Green Memorial Hospital and makes a straight forward proposal to raise part thereof (USD 4000) by way of both donations and sponsorship from major donors (Corporate).

On the 1st of March 2017, in celebration of their fiftieth year, a group of 4 ex-classmates are getting on their bikes and riding 400 kilometres from Colombo to Jaffna to raise money for a small rural not-for-profit hospital on the Jaffna peninsula in Sri Lanka.

Calling themselves – Team RideForCharity – they are raising funds for the ‘Friends of Manipay’ — a UK registered charity for the refurbishment and restoration of the Green Memorial Hospital in Manipay, Jaffna.

The Goal

Their  goal  was to raise funds for the Green Memorial Hospital, a fully charity funded hospital in Manipay, Jaffna.  The hospital is in its 170th year but is a shadow of its past self; having been plundered and destroyed during the 30 year civil conflict that raged in the region.  Today, the hospital is itself on life-support and only exists because of the Friends of Manipay Charity and the generosity of a few selfless philanthropists.

The Mission

Their mission is to do the hard miles; 250 of them – 400km – and in so doing raise funds for the Friends of Manipay Charity, who have a long list of requirements for the Green Memorial.  The hospital gives ‘free medical care’ to around half a million people a year in Manipay and most of it is funded directly by the Charity.  The hospital also runs a teaching school for nurses and care staff supported by the Institute of Medical Sciences Trust and managed by the Friends of Manipay Charity.

There are several buildings in need of urgent restoration and there are tons of new hospital furniture and medical equipments needed.  The surrounding areas once devastated by war are only now returning to normalcy and the need for healthcare services is desperate. Critical healthcare services have been established but there remains an urgent need for mental health, neurology, orthopaedics and a whole list of other care services.  The funds raised can be utilised by the hospital for a million different things; making the teams fundraising goal of $8K a mere drop in an ocean.

So, their goal and mission is very clear – to fundraise for the Green Memorial Hospital on behalf the Friends of Manipay Charity – by riding 400km in the sweltering heat across Sri Lanka’s dry zone.  The goal is USD 8000.

The Proposal

Team RideForCharity seeks to raise USD 4000 from corporate donations and through sponsorship – and in return pledges to carry your corporate banner responsibly, ethically and with dignity – and generate much interest to stimulate a substantial percentage growth in brand/product awareness.

The whole ride is to be recorded and the interesting parts will be propagated, sometimes live, via social media. Their social media following is expected to be huge with an already growing audience and still 45 days to go to the event.

The team has two confirmed news media publications/articles coming out before the event – and are working on more, including several after the event too. The team expects further media opportunities that can all be leveraged by the sponsors.

Brand Recognition & Product Placement opportunities in:

Media – Online, print and broadsheet.

In the final weeks leading up to the event, RideForCharity will run promotional articles in several publications targeting Sri Lankan’s both at home and abroad in a final fundraising drive.  All key sponsors will get mentioned in these articles and the same will carry on after the conclusion of the charity event.

Social – Micro blogging and live video feeds.

Using Twitter, Instagram and Facebook the team will have live feeds running throughout the event accompanied by live video.  These feeds will be carried across various user accounts – and one of the support accounts has close to half-million followers on Twitter.  Many ‘in-video’ product placement opportunities will exist.

Road-show – Branding on bikes, vans and cycling jerseys
